**Kailua Canoe Club** offers a premier youth paddling experience through its **Makalei Canoe Club** program. Located at the beautiful **Kailua Beach Park** (across from Buzz's Steakhouse), the club is dedicated to perpetuating the Hawaiian tradition of outrigger canoe paddling while fostering a deep sense of "Ohana" (family) and community. Guided by the motto *"Pa'a Ka Waha, Hana Me Ka Lima"* (Shut the mouth, work with the hands), the program teaches keiki the value of hard work, teamwork, and respect for the ocean. **Youth Program Highlights:** * **Makalei Season:** A specialized winter season (approx. Nov–Feb) for youth paddlers in **Grades 3–12**. * **No Experience Needed:** Open to new and returning paddlers (space permitting), teaching everything from basic strokes to race strategies. * **Cultural Values:** Instruction is rooted in the Aloha spirit, emphasizing Akahai (kindness), Lōkahi (unity), and Ha'aha'a (humility). * **Competition:** Participants race in the Nā 'Ōpio Canoe Racing Association regattas. **Location:** Kailua Beach Park (Kailua Canoe Club Halau) **Ages:** Grades 3–12 (Must be 9 years old by season start) **Practice:** Typically Tue/Thurs afternoons during the season.
