Hawaii Shotokan Karate
About
**Hawaii Shotokan Karate (HSK)** has been a pillar of the Honolulu martial arts community since 1983. Founded by **Sensei Alan Sekiguchi**, the dojo is dedicated to more than just teaching self-defense; its primary vision is to develop respectful, responsible, and contributing members of the community. Located at the **Manoa Japanese Language School**, HSK offers a structured and supportive environment where children learn the dynamics of Shotokan Karate. Sensei Sekiguchi’s unique teaching methodology goes beyond physical movements, helping students understand the "why" and "how" behind every technique. The program places a strong emphasis on academic progress and good conduct, ensuring that students excel both in the dojo and in the classroom. **Why Families Choose HSK:** * **Character First:** The curriculum prioritizes discipline, respect, and responsibility. * **Community & Ohana:** A true family atmosphere featuring annual picnics, holiday parties, and community service projects like food bank and blood drives. * **Goal-Oriented Training:** Students build confidence through regular belt testing and opportunities to compete in club, state, and national tournaments (including the National Karate Federation's Junior Olympics). * **Experienced Leadership:** Led by Chief Instructor Alan Sekiguchi, who has over 40 years of teaching experience. Whether your child is a complete beginner or looking to refine their skills, Hawaii Shotokan Karate provides quality instruction at a reasonable price, fostering a lifelong love for martial arts and fitness. **Location:** Manoa Japanese Language School (MJLS) 2804 East Manoa Road Honolulu, HI 96822 **Class Schedule:** * **Tuesdays & Thursdays:** 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM * **Saturdays:** 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
